The Kaethe-Kollwitz-School is an Elementary School in the northern part of Giessen, a town with ca. 70.000 inhabitants in the middle of Germany, 60 kilometers north of Frankfurt. 230 pupils from 17 nations attend our school.
Our work is based on the official curriculum of the state of Hessen. Understanding for different cultural backgrounds or the individual needs of our children is very important for us. Over 40% of our pupils have a bilingual education at home and speak besides German the native language of their parents home countries. This variety enriches living and learning at our school.
Our main goal is to support every student to come to a sufficient and successful learning process.

The first european teachersmeeting of this project took part in Germany, from 19th till 23rd of September 2011. 13 teachers from Norway, Italy, England, Poland and Spain were guests of our school.
All school partners will work together on all tasks including hosting partner meetings, providing agenda items, trialling and producing the products as well as visiting each school to observe and discuss local practice.Germany will have responsibility for the maths dictionary.
In February 2012 we also took part at the teachers second COMENIUS meeeting "Living maths" in Northern Norway. Our partnerschoolin Norway is Hatteng Skole at Storfjord - in the region Troms.
Sports and motion
We are very proud of our pupils´ successes.
We organize a yearly school competition for track and field athletics. In may 2007 we were awarded with a special certificate for our sports program by the Ministry of Education.
Physical exercise is important for a child healthy development and supportive concerning successful learning.
Physical exercise is an essential part of our daily schedule.
Our school teams take part in many port competitions in our town (swimming, soccer, long-distance-running).
Working with New Media
A steady component of our teaching work is using modern software and the Internet in all our classes. Every student from the second grade on is taught to use an online based literature program, to write own stories, to use the Internet to find information or to create his own homepage.
