 Our school

The Kaethe-Kollwitz-School is an Elementary School in the northern part of Giessen, a town with ca. 70.000 inhabitants in the middle of Germany, 60 kilometers north of Frankfurt. 230 pupils from 17 nations attend our school, taught by 16 teachers.

Our choir

Our work is based on the official curriculum of the state of Hessen. Understanding for different cultural backgrounds or the individual needs of our children is very important for us. Over 40% of our pupils have a bilingual education at home and speak besides German the native language of their parents home countries. This variety enriches living and learning at our school.

For the next two years we take part at a COMENIUS-Project with Poland, Norway and Turkey. "While playing I create - education through movement" is the theme.

For parents:

Sports and motion

Physical exercise is important for a child healthy development and supportive concerning successful learning.

Physical exercise is an essential part of our daily schedule.

Our school teams take part in many port competitions in our town (swimming, soccer, long-distance-running).

We are very proud of our pupils´ successes.

We organize a yearly school competition for track and field athletics. In may 2007 we were awarded with a special certificate for our sports program by the Ministry of Education.

Working with New Media

A steady component of our teaching work is using modern software and the Internet in all our classes. Every student from the second grade on is taught to use an online based literature program, to write own stories, to use the Internet to find information or to create his own homepage.
